Anna's insight:

Depiction of bodies of color in the media regarding Coronavirus.

Bodies of Latin American miners being exploited in extreme sites of extraction of minerals, gold and silver and the post colonial significance of such exploitation.

/Priviledge used o create change
/Continuous change to understand bodies
/Identity- different developed bodies

/Take,care,continuity is the key
I am interested in how bodies move together and how we can use bodies + mapping as a tool of social resistence
Branco's insight:
Depiction of bodies of color and gender in the "media" regarding Hysteria (Salem, Massachusetts, 17th century)

A story about money and power
the Psychology of a "leader":

Samuel Parris born in England in a family of financial wealth, Attended Harvard in Boston.
His father died in 1673 so he left Harvard to care care of his inheritance in Barbados,
Where he maintained a sugar plantation.
In 1680 a hurricane hit Barbados, damaging the property so he sold it and returned to Boston with his family and his Indian slave, Tituba.

In North America the number of the English settled got up to 154000 estimated in 1688
The French reached a number of 14000 at the end of the King William’s war in 1697.
In 1689 a civil war broke out against the French which destroyed upstate New York.
People had to fled the city and some of them found ground in Salem, Massachusetts.
U can imagine that these people left everything behind and started up a new life for themselves and in Salem there was limited resource to live from.

Parris was dissatisfied with his lack of financial security so in July 1689 he became minister of Salem. Where the other ministers failed, Parris had to find a way to maintain
“powerful” so like any other male in war history he started killing in the name of god. The one who did not believe where most probably a witch and therefore had to be killed. Another reason for the witch scare was the outbreak of Hysteria.

Hysteria was seen as the devil taking over the body, while after a little investigation by… it was most probably the ingredient… in the bread that caused the unbearable pain and spasm on the body and made this woman scream in pain.
Funny how the government always blame the people for eating something they’re doing out of poverty, like bats for example.

The first one to be accused of “Witchcraft” was !!Tituba!! the enslaved Native American woman paired with two other woman.
After a lot of punishment it was Tituba that confessed that she was a witch. And all the Hysteria following up was covered under witch craft.

You see in the game of the powerplay that the most strategic way these man grab they’re victims is at the time where they’re victim is most vulnerable and driven by fear.

"National Socialism" and hate speech depicting a 15 YEAR OLD african girl , born and raised in Belgium.
This video is interesting as image maker
it explains how the image of the woman body is used in the film genre witchcraft.
the role romanticizes and objectifies the trauma and blends in nicely with Laura Mulvey's research on the male gaze in narrative cinema

braindrafts:

>A collaborative practise from home or together in distance.

>To create a virtual "land of the free"
but free as in reconnecting with ourselves and the planet

>A cringeworthy collaborative video with singing making music and dancing (or whatever the body feels like to free itself).

>Make an Instagram/platform where people share themselves practise harmony in any shape of form

To regain hope and love in isolated households allover the world

Make witchcraft great again
Interesting to visualize a "workshop" for the social practise working from home...
Mapping my own body:
I was able to research my body and look for
patterns to collect in order to connect it to our topic.

one file is a 40 minutes conversation with
my grandma discussing the history with
her ex husband who moved to Chile as a
coloniser after WWII. During this
conversation we talk about psychological and physical abuse,
motherhood and womenhood in those
times.

I find this interesting when related to
Brancos insight on the psychology behind
the male leader, in my case I related it to
the White savior phenomena.

-Another interesting audio recording
I found was from a conversation I had
with a couple of Chileans that I met in
Schiedam during the making of a previous project.

During this conversation we talk about
the Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, who in his
life in europe abandoned his daughter and wife. His daughter was born with hydrocefalia therefore had a difficult youth. He abandoned his wife Maryka Hagenaar, Maruca in Monte Carlo, during the times of the Spanish revolution. Later the wife managed to move to Gouda in the Netherlands, her and her daughter suffered hunger and always in poor condition. Neruda's daughter Malva ended up dying at the age of 9, her grave can still be found in Gouda. Once again I am able to connect this to the theory of the cis male protagonist who's actions were able to leave a mark on women's life. He has always been a glorified Chilean Poet this alternative story makes me reflect on his image.
Explaination on (cis) white saviorism:
Now with the new rules caused by corona. prochoice for abortion seems questionable...
I'm aware that my physcial body really differs from my mental/spiritual body (which is breathing queer).

Often objectified and fetished in the working field, few times harrassed. I didn't expect this to come up while mapping my body. but i feel that it shaped todays's insecurities.

but just because my body looks privileged it hasn't anything to do with a feeling inside and the way people treat it, with disrespect (because they accidentally really start liking me)

I look very manly and that had always put me on a certain stage in which i didn't find any comfort.

That's why i seek more comfort in my spiritual body.
I created a selfportrait in my favorite colors this time.

No moodboards to hold on to, no roles to play.
A few weeks ago when Covid-19 start spreading around in dutch media, something really disturbing happened at Wunderbar.

I was a night out with my friends Janine and Sander. when we came back from smoking cigarettes. I saw a Korean girl getting intimidated and filmed by two dutch guys. I was there within a fraction of seconds with devil eyes and luckily he decided to leave on suggest of his mate filming, I was quickly aware of the fact that the girl and the other guys were friends.

In Wunderbar there is seats connected to a trail, u can move them by turning the weel on the back of the seat. what they did is take this girl away from the side of everybody to practise this kind of disgustingness!

after this we became friends and her friend that was on the toilet at the moment it happened. she came sit with us, we had pizza and an amazing night after all.

now that she is back in South-Korea she really got depressed...
Here I tried to map the history of body

exploitation and social gestures that

originated from male's abuse and how it

can affect women on a generational

scale. I see it as body exploitation because

being female and not male is what made

the abuse possible

I recently happened to watch

this series, and later on

realised that this can also be

seen as an example of how

patriarchal family

structures affect women

within a specific community. It

causes different forms of

generational trauma in people.
I perceive my body

and soul as one

thing. From this

research I am able

to dive into the

different

components of a

body, and observe

it

from an emotional

point of view. As

we are looking at

body exploitation

we want to find

out the common

link between the

different types of

bodies (therefore

souls and

emotions) that can

be affected

negatively by

male supremacy

within social

realities (ex.

family structures)

the pretty young THING that walked into the studio with a woman/child like ability which arouses something in men....
ANNA
Vickey Lynn Hogan (better known as Anna Nicole Smith) became famous after falling in love with an old rich white man who soon after the marriage died. after this being thrown into legal battles by here devil's advocate Howard stern who took advantage of her body and saw it as a money milking machine; I recall abuse and objectification.
isolating here, making a realityshow of her in which she's been drugged an put into sketches, for the sake of entertainment
